ARTipolo Joined ART in the Park 2022 in Partnership with Kulay Art Group

ART in the Park is a yearly event much awaited by art lovers, art enthusiasts, art collectors, and of course, the participating artists. Previously, it was held for about a week or two in the park at Makati, from which the event got its name. ARTipolo Group has been participating since last year through its partnership with Kulay Art Group, a regular exhibitor in the said event headed by one of ARTipolo's active members, Mr. Tam Urao. Leading artists and young upcoming artists by ARTipolo group added to the collections of art pieces on sale. Art enthusiasts and collectors love this particular event because they can avail masterpieces at a reasonable price. It also paves the way for new artists who would be, in the future, big names in this field.

In 2022, several art pieces were again exhibited online from Mr. Urao's collection and from ARTipolo Group led by Mr. Pol Mesina, Jr. You would see decorative art pieces of various themes. We invite you to visit our group's entries if you are searching for an art piece for luck or beautifying your homes. Simply click on the images below to be brought to the specific page on the "Art in the Park" website.

The good thing about this year's online exhibit is that the website allows the buyers to see the details of each piece by zooming in on the photos. Also, it now has a virtual wall view to see how it would appear on walls relative to its size.

If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to comment or message us, and we will try to reply as soon as possible.

Come and see the exhibit! You may find a rare gem among these art pieces.  Art in the Park 2022 runs from April 24 to May 1, 2022.

Describing the Strength and Love of Women with my Art

"Transcend", this was the initial title of my last work.  Then, to honor motherhood, I have added another image and renamed this work "El Nacimiento", which means "The Birth".

Look closely and tell me what you see.  It may look like just some splashes of white, blue, and ultra marine colored paints.  But do you see the gold relief?

For art appreciation, allow me to tell you what it means for me.  But please, don't be limited by these interpretation.  You may have your own story to tell with this painting.  Feel free to share it in the comment.

Here it goes...

Women are different in every aspect but what endears most is that they are soft, fragile, yet strong and resilient.
  • Mothers are modern day martyrs.  They show their love by giving the best to their children and sacrifices their own gratification, because their joy emanates from the happiness of their love ones.
  • Grandmothers never runs out of love.  Though they grow weak physically with age, yet still their love and care are bountiful and can last until they see their grandchildren walks the aisles.
  • Sisters are like little women who leads their younger siblings, to grow with love and with faith.  They are like the closest friends we can even have.
  • Colleagues supports and give their cooperation without being asks.  When they see you needing a hand, their heart grows soft and offers their hands.

There are still lots of affirmation I can list about women and we will run out of space.  To capture them in a symbolic painting, I made this painting using the expressionism and abstraction.  It was initially called "Transcend" because they are as how this word is defined - "be or go beyond the range or limits ".

The black represents the dark side of our current situation (i.e. pandemic)
The blue color represents the challenges.
The marine color represents how deep their thoughts are
The white represents the purity of their heart and sour
and the gold represents their value

I used acrylic pour to show the fluidity on how women adapt to the environment.  And like stars in heaven, the profile of a women shines bright.  They go beyond their means and overcome any obstacles with the help of God.  They drew strength from their faith, hopes and love.

How to Draw Alive-Looking Eyes

If you want to learn how to draw faces and portraiture, one key to make it captivating and real is by drawing the eyes realistically or making it alive.  The eyes are windows to our soul or emotions.  Even through drawing, being able to draw a  captivating eye can change the appearance and impact of your work.

When I started learning how to draw portraiture, I practiced a lot on the eyes of the subject.  I experimented and finally, I learned how we can possibly draw alive looking eyes.  There are several materials online to learn how to draw beautiful looking eyes.  So I curated some here for different levels of learning.

Remember, you will not grow if you don't practice.  So with these materials, I advise you get your tools and find a perfect place to start drawing.

Drawing Eyes for Beginners

The following video illustrates an easy way of drawing eyes starting from a circle.  This video exhibits outlines and not much on shading.  Thus, as a beginner, you'll be able to produce eyes that may lack details.

Advance Art Tutorial - Drawing hyper realistic eye

The next video takes longer but the end product is much better.  This will teach you more details on shaping the eye and using the right amount of shading for pencil drawings.

As you have seen from the video, you need to layer the shading starting from light to darkest.  To add more value and make it realistic, take notice of the highlights or how the artist lifted off some of the granite to reveal the white light.  Always consider where the light falls in your drawing.  Train your eyes to see the details of lighting.

Painting Realistic Eye

You may now have the urge to learn how to add colors to your artwork.  The following video is a time-lapse but would still give you idea on how to paint realistically looking eyes.  The medium used in this video is oil paint. Oil paint doesn’t dry quickly and needs longer time to finish. If you are going to use oil paint, you need to be patient and don’t rush your work.

Take notice of the process.  Different from using graphite, the artist started with dark background to build on the foundation of his painting.  Then little by little he layered the lighter colors and used fine brushes to shape and add volume to his painting.  The final touches uses tutanium white for highlights.  He also uses clean dry brushes for softening parts that he wanted to blend.  The good thing with oil paint is that you can blend colors well using linseed oil even after a day or two. The colors are brighter as well and blending is much easier compared to acrylic. When acrylic dries, you can no longer blend it.  With acrylic, you have to work on wet-on-wet.

After watching these videos, it inspires me to start working on my art.  I hope that through these materials, you are able to learn some tips on how you would work on your "Eyes".

FEATURED ARTIST 1: CORAZON G. PATARATA

We have introduced to you a proficient and well respected artist, Ms. Corazon G. Patarata before the launch of CASCADE.  Now, we are featuring her once again as she shares her latest works with us. She has contributed well to our fund raising for CASCADE Art Studio and without her help, we would have found it difficult to sustain our activities.  For this month of February, allow me to introduce to you Ate Cora as we call her.

Ms. Patarata painted this bag when I asked her to share her talent for the sake of helping people with needs.  She willingly and excitedly acted on my request and has produced this pretty hand-painted bag, designed with the birds of paradise flowers.  This bag went to Ms. Michelle Diwa, who highly appreciated Ate Cora's works.

Latest work of Ms. Patarata
Bright Morning. acrylic on canvas. 24 in.high x 18 in wide. 2021

61 years old, with an earlier 20-year experience as a diplomat, is a self-taught artist, who works with watercolors, oil pastels and acrylic paints, in a modern realist-impressionist style. Her subjects are flowers, landscapes, marine life, famous landmarks and monuments, heavenly bodies, and angels, and sometimes there are human figures included in her picture compositions.  Two articles about Cora’s painting career, penned by Babeth Lolarga, were published by Verafiles.Org and circulated in Yahoo News: “A Former Diplomat’s Sojourn Into Painting”, published on 30 May 2014; and “The Traveller As Painter”, published on 20 January 2017. Souce: https://verafiles.org/articles/traveler-painter

Patarata is with the Antipolo-based artists’ group ARTipolo that has the Hemophilia Association of the Philippines for Love and Service as permanent beneficiary for all its exhibits. This self-taught vignette painter admires Amorsolo. “I aspire to someday learn his techniques with light and shadows.”Among the Renaissance artists, she singled out Rembrandt for the sensitivity of his human figures, Tintoretto for his lights and shadows, Paul Cezanne, Paul Gaugin and Vincent Van Gogh for their colors and brushstrokes.

Of the moderns, she likes John Singer Sargent “for the emotional impact of his paintings,” Frida Kahlo “for her use of Nature as symbols for human emotions,” Miro “for his joyful and playful abstract renditions” and Norman Rockwell “for portraying scenes of everyday life that everyone can relate with.”

Now that she is doing what fulfills her, she calls painting “an essential part of me. Painting is something I owe to my Maker and to the people around me.Through the process, I enjoy many good feelings in heart and spirit.Painting is like praying. It is like a cleansing and uplifting process.”

The following are Ms. Patarata's works.  If you are a collector or an Art enthusiast, you may want to avail one her works, which is posted in our Gallery Shop.     Check it out now!

Lilac for Your Home

Lilac color or violet is a comfort color.  Some says it is a majestic color and emperors wore robes in this color shade.  This year's color is violet as well.  I have read in the Wikipedia that violet is also associated with extravagance and individualism, the unconventional, the artificial, and ambiguity.  Whatever the color means to you, for me, it's a color that please the eyes.  It's like a color that mixes my two (2) favorite colors - Blue and shade of pink.

My two floral works are painted in this shade.  I call it "Lilac Keepsake Series".  These paintings can be a very good keepsake for people who loves Violet or the color of Lilac flowers.

If you are interested with the above artworks, please feel free to message me.  I have included these among the rewards for supporting our project CASCADE.  By purchasing these works, you'll also get a chance to help sustain our endeavour to help special children and adults.

Thanks for appreciating my works.  Feel free to comment.

My Latest Acrylic Painting "Dapo" as part of the ArTe aMo Exhibit

The ARTipolo Group's new set of officers for year 2018 opened the Art exhibit at Verde Resto, in Loreland Farm Resort on February 4, 2018.  With the generosity of Mr. Marinas (owner of Loreland Farm Resort), ARTipolo Art Group found a home where they can showcase their works.

For the month of February, the ARTipolo Board of Directors exhibited their original works of Art and since it is a "love month", the title of the said exhibit is "ArTe a' Mo", which combines the Filipino phrase "arte mo" - (you're artistic); and the Spanish phrase "Te a' mo" (my love).  The exhibit ran for a month and was open to everyone who's interested to view and even purchase original work of arts.

For details of the said event, below is the invitation poster.

Now, here is my piece, which I displayed for the above exhibit.  I copied this from a photo taken by a friend, Mr. Fort.   After the exhibit, I posted it in my FB account and luckily, one close friend liked it and bought it.  Since the buyer and I were brothers in faith, I gave him this piece with artist's price.  I was happy enough to give it to him.  You see, for me, appreciation of my work is the main factor that I consider before I sell my babies.  And I'm glad that "Dapo" found a new home.

Title:  "Dapo"
Medium:  Acrylic on Canvas
Size:  2X3 ft.
Date:  2018

I also accept commissioned work.  If you want to have something like this, please feel free to send me an e-mail or message me in my FB Page.

My Creative World

I lack focus because of the may things I want to do.  My job as an HR Consultant is essential because it gives me means to finance my hobbies, which includes painting, photography, writing poetry and novels.  I have invested on my tools but I haven't perfected my craft.  I sell portraitures and get commissioned work from time to time.  However, I was not able to produce a masterpiece that I can be proud with.

I like posting pictures in instagram and has gained followers for about 900++ My instagram account rosegob presents my travels and how I view the places I had visited.  I'm lucky to have been born on an era where communication is a lot easier.  I get to share to the world my creations.  I just hope that in my life's journey I'll get to leave a mark.  The kind of mark I wanted to share is the way I see beautiful things despite difficulties and challenges.  The Lord has given us a lot of wonderful things.  HE has given our hearts eyes to see what people often fail to see.  I want you to look closely with me.

I once tried to paint with angst, because many of the contemporary artist I know get noticed for it.  But when I tried looking at tjat work, I feel it's not my nature.  So again, I explore and try to find my own style.  I'm still in this journey. I hope you can help me find it.  Feel free to tell me and critique my works.  I will not take offense but would be greatful for your honesty.

I, too, have a lazy bone.  So when I am not able to post, please do call me.  Wake me up from my slumber so I can make you see my creative world.  Let me thank you in advance my friends.

HeartStrings of an Aspiring Artist

The feelings of a person is like a gamut of different roads.  When you are lonely, you feel like being on the verge of falling as you walk a tight rope.  But when you are happy, your world is full of colors and sunshine.

It's such a wonder how music calms our soul.    Look at the works of great masters in arts... have you heard of Beethoven's melodies?  It transforms and paints pictures in your mind.  Have you seen Picasso's work?  People deep in thought find it amazing yet with a viewer like me (shallow as I may say,) I don't really see it beautiful.  I want to paint light's spectrums, colors and happiness.  That's how it would be for me.  The angst, depressions and sorrow is not something I behold.  Because it lack lights... lack pleasures... it feels dark.  I don't want to be in the dark.

Don't get me wrong though.  I don't abhor their works nor repulse it. I see some works amazing like the realism of Gottfried Helnwein but it's not something that I would want to aspire for.  Maybe because I am female and prefers the subtleness and lightness of Vladimir Volegov's paintings.  Or maybe... because I am not much of an artist...

Anyway, what I am sharing today was one I made when I was working alone on fieldwork and I don't have the luxury of the digital things to entertain me while enclosed in the confines of my four-walled hotel room.

Here's "HeartStrings" for my pleasure... and hope it will be the same for you.  I regret the day when I sold it.  But rationalizing, I hope and believe that the buyer of this piece would care and cherish it.

Now, for practicality and to educate myself in "Letting Go", I tried sharing limited copies of this online.  I don't know if I would be able to make a sale out of its prints... but how would I know if I will not try?

So here is my online store: RoseGobsArt

Once again, thank you for reading.

A Gift

This was the first oil painting I made when I returned to drawing and painting on 2012.  I made it as a gift to my dear friend Sharon.  It's an oil painting on canvas, size 9 X 14.

I still remember when I painted this as a gift to my friend Sharon.  I was rusty from doing arts since I haven't done any since 2005.  I thought I lost the passion for art and the skills for it.  But now that I have time and am going matured, I regain the interest to draw and paint.

Looking at this work, I saw the freshness of my approach to painting.  Now, because of too much pressure in producing pieces that I need to exhibit, I lost that freshness.  I hope I'll be able to get that feeling of happiness in working on my art pieces.  From hereon, I will undertake my paintings as way of relieving why I get back to painting.  That is to enjoy the process of producing memories on canvas and sharing it with people close to me.

As an aspiring artist, I enjoined my students to find your reason why you wanted to draw or paint.  Painting and drawing may come as a hobby for you.  But if you really love doing it, go ahead and paint.  In painting, you need to be in a zone where you get absorbed working with paint.  Lose the fear and anxiety in putting paints on canvas.  If you feel anxious, stop working.  Find the drive in your heart.  Painting should be an enjoyable process for you, but not like a game with less value.

I hope this help you in your exploration.  Painting can be a therapy when you find yourself in your works.  When you put a paint on canvas and produce something beautiful, you will get a feeling of satisfaction.  Your feeling towards your work is like they are your "babies".  When I began creating works, I refused to part with them.  But then I learned that I will be motivated to paint more if I part with them.

I allow myself to depart from my works but only with the condition that my work goes to someone who would cherish them.  If a person enjoyed my work, I feel happy and contented.

How do you feel when you paint?  Can you share or give them freely to others?

Customized Shirt (Hand Painted)

This is a personalized gift T-shirt, hand painted using fabric or textile paint.

This t-shirt was created last July 2014.  I created this to serve as a gift for our speaker in the Street Photography workshop, Mr. Dominic Meily.  He did not asked for any fee and so we thought of giving him this hand-painted shirt.

How I created this?  It is easy.  Here's how:

What you need are the following:
  • Black t-shirt
  • Textile paints
  • Brushes
  • Masking Tape
  • Printer
  • Scissors

I started looking for a Silhouette of a photographer.  Have it printed and cut it out to use as a stencil.

Then I looked for photos of a street as reference for my painting.

Prepare the t-shirt by sticking the stencil on the black shirt.  Then protect the surrounding of the t-shirt with masking tape.  I created a box-type canvas as shown in the photo above.

Then, with your street reference, use your brushes and textile paints as pigment for your painting.  I painted the street as abstract.

After painting, let it dry for some time.  Then peel-off the stencil of the photographer and the masking tapes.  Luckily, there's no mistakes or paint smudges out of the square.  If there's any, simply cover it with black textile paint.

That's it.  It is easy if you enjoy painting.

Prior to painting the street, I printed the silhouette of the photographer and sticked it on the shirt

A Smile for A Cure

A Commissioned Portrait

Oil Painting on Canvas
9.5 X 16
May 2014

This is an oil painting I made as a gift to my friend, Dr. Curie Sarmiento.  She was a bubbly, strong, and sweet person.  She loves helping and she is quite good natured.

When I was working on this portraiture, I was afraid not being able to capture her likeness.  But her smile is endearing.  It took me a lot of time fixing and finalizing this painting.  Also, since its medium is oil paint, it took long before it dried well.  The good thing about using oil is its vibrancy.  The colors don't change much when it dried.

In doing oil painting, be sure not to work inside your room.  There should be air flowing in your work area because the smell may be harmful to your health.  There are mediums that you can use to speed up the process of drying.  I don't like turpentine because of its smell and it turns the oil paint brittle.  I use Winsor and Newton Liquin fast dry.  It is a little costly but it's worth it.

For the pigment, I like Winsor and Newton, or Reeves.  But sometimes I ran out of supplies.  So I also resort to Monte Marte and Maries.  I haven't explored all pigment types yet.  But I noticed that Maries quality is not as smooth as that of Reeves.  Maybe this is one that I'll explore in the future.

Can you give me advise as to what paint pigment to use?

Child at Play Series

Oil Pastel on Paper
8.5 X 14
March 13, 2013

Have you experienced playing in the province? I did. Children living in rural area are quite lucky to have a large playground and having so much space and healthy air to breath.  It was really fun and carefree during those days.  Now, we live in a city and there's so much concrete around our community.  We barely see fruit trees.  There are no streams to bath on with friends.  We can't even run and play under the rain anymore.  Those were the days.

My friend photographer shared a photo of a very young student playing with ropes tied on a tree.  This painting is actually copied from an original photo taken by Mr. Dom Meily of Photoville.  I asked him if I can use his material to paint this scene.

I hope I was able to capture the fun and joy that the kid felt while he's playing.  He was close to nature and though alone, he seems happy enough on his own.  I hope you too enjoyed this scene.

Please comment if there's anything that I need to improve in this work.

A Painting of NATCCO Network's Cooperative Tree

This is an oil painting sized 25" X 30" created as part of NATCCO's Staff Assembly. The staff assembly is actually a recreational activity for the employees and part of the 2 days outing, is a half-day team building activity, which the consultancy team facilitated.  We gave games and this output was the wrapping-it-up activity, where each employee was given a chance to be part of this painting by making their mark on the canvass using parts of their hands. They get to choose their colors. It symbolizes that despite individual differences, in NATCCO Network's growth, they are essential parts of the bigger picture. I, Rose Gob, did the final touches. But by comparing the raw with the new one, you would see that there's not much difference between the two.  Except that we highlighted it by painting the colors of sunset and adding volume to the other colors.

(Raw)

(Final)

After retouching this painting, I gave it to the office but haven't seen where it was actually hanged.  Anyway, the memories of this painting is what matters -  the fun and experiences of the NATCCO employees while they worked on developing this piece.

To see more of Rose Gob's artworks at her Facebook page. If you would want to get a copy of the activities module, you may send me a direct message using the E-mail form in my blog.  You are also welcome to comment here.
